So this past 16-20 june, i went for my 2nd camp: Arts Camp 2012: Artspocalypse.

Firstly, I must really thank Catherine for helping me crash this camp. Its a favour done for me that i wont forget in the near future. thanks!

I felt quite out of place at the start, not having the tag around my neck and all, cos im a crasher. throughout the camp i didnt like that word popping up cos it made me feel different: something i detested. lets do this in chronological order haha.

1st day, group icebreakers then mass icebreakers. mass icebreakers was good becos i started talking to my grpmates then. played the 'each house mus pass up like, 20 shirts' game, where fastest house won. Btw i was in R house, theme for my house this year was Ravengers; my group was Rhor (as in Thor). Then played the save the king game. gosh, that game brings back good memories and a good laugh, but during the game its not completely fun at all man.

onto lunch and station games for the first day, where we started to play lame games like the squeeze-water-from-our-shirts-for-girls-1-floor-downstairs-to-collect-with-cups game, which i also played in CBB. other day 1 games included this tongue twister game where we got shot with a water gun if we read it wrongly (and must read multiple times), and also some rainbow game where we actually made up the colours of the rainbow. and some blow pingpong ball game.
then was arts camp dance 2012, which was very passable, except the music very soft. best part was karl owning the stage when he was arrowed to perf for his house. super epic facial expressions during that. after that, we got to meet our SPs. sadly, since i was a crasher, i was brought to anyone whose SP wasnt around. hence my 1st SP was this girl from Tairspray, who couldnt give a shit about me now. too weird for her.

Last activity for day 1 was to find some envelopes in a cordoned off area. Twas kinda fun, running around w my partner joey, and chilling when we're tired and not giving a shit about the game. Running was best when Ocommers came around and said things like 'the anticipation of getting stepped is better than getting stepped on itself'. Went supper w seniors after that at fongseng. nice food.

day 2: more station games. had to use my shirt as skipping rope, played bowling using a soccer ball and empty bottles from day1's stupid game, where we had to gulp down that disgusting drink as fast as we could. ugh. what other games leh? some zombie game where we had paint all over ourselves, some charades game where we got owned flat, and some blow-balloon-walk-to-apple-and-bite-off-apple game. nothing much once again.

key highlight for the day in day 2 was rag dance in lt8. it wasnt the dance, but the fact that hh sam pp sq jh all went on stage to 'perf' cos they were 'picked' by their house ics. i was super high and laughing all the way, cos seeing them on stage was so funny. think i freaked my OG out, those that saw me high.

SP games early in the night, where i met another girl, a fellow crasher (i still dk who she is till today), but she was fun to talk to. we then had fright night, where my dear partner teshura freaked out. I got to say it brought back memories of SCREAM 2008, and it was good bah. if i went alone, i'd freak out too. good to have company. great effort by ocomm.
day 2 ended with HTHT session w OG at TH, where we talked about our traffic light status, and our SPs. nothing much that can be shared here. circle of trust man.

i felt that the first two days were pretty normal and slow. OG bonded really slowly: only really started around fright night; before that we were all in our cliques. we all werent very responsive to our seniors too, they had to initiate everything: from supper to HTHT to drinking session. in fact, i felt that cbb was btr than the first two days. cbb was so family-like, everyone was closely knit, and v nice to us freshies. in contrast, the ocommers didnt seem to know the ogls and councillors. it felt so distant, i didnt like it. but that was just for the first two days.

3rd day was beach day. was really really fun. just getting in the water, playing games w the OG and dunking. just plain having fun. it really brought us together. not to mention the mass games afterwards of the caterpillar game, and tug-of-war, where teshura and clara repped our OG and won, and pp repped as well. this was an impt day in the history of Rhor as it really brought us together i feel, especially with the HTHT at vivo (of which i was not a part of), and also the HTHT at night back at TH. we started opening up to one another, it was really fun. (running short on vocab here)

4th day was sports day, so more og games, this time more sport related. captains ball w cabbage, darts, pepsi-cola, dodgeball, foosball-like game, telematch. today more ppl volunteered to play games, so it was really good, cos everyone was so much more comfortable with everyone else. throughout the 4 days btw, the seniors had this 'loud, louder, loudest' game. super funny game where they dared one another to shout 'obscene' statements out loud, and you had to be louder than the previous guy before u. super embarassing to play, but we got over the shameless stage by day 4.
it was then time for some mass games again: this time, it was battleships. each house had 4 ships represented by a group of 5. they each had a mast, which if busted water bombs, the ship would have 'sunk'. aim of the game was to sink the base of opponent houses. our house got bombarded by S and A house becos we won tug-of-war 3outof4 times, and came in second for caterpillar game. Soon after that game concluded, it was time for FFA, so we took the spare water bombs and threw them at our friends!haha, just a juvenile game haha. back to childhood yknow. after that. it was time for SP revelation.

my ogmate's SP was siquan. life is so coincidental! (just refer to previous post on CBB). trolled her the entire 4 days about it. as expected, i was alone cos i didnt have a SP, so it was nice of cat delin and tangjie to take me in and ask me to sit w them for dinner. my group then got high at the deck, and took lots of photos! and onto social night@zouk we went.

I've got to say my OG was the wildest at zouk. entire OG participated and partied, bouncing shaking and movign to the DJ's beats. it was terrific seeing all my friends joining in, even though for more than a handful of us, it was our first time. so proud to belong in this OG cos we're so haps and jus owned any other OG on the dancefloor that night. so so proud.

and then we had to end the camp. so the next day, after waking up at a decent timing for once, we wrote on one another's appreciation cards. lotsa love goin around then. we watched a arts camp montage, where it made the PD cry becos..idk why la, but i could understood the emotions running thru his mind. after giving out awards for best house, in which R house supposedly were very close to winning but ended up getting second, we proceeded to TH for house debrief.

We sang our house song for the very last time. that was the first time in the entire camp i felt really sad not to be able to hang out with this bunch of OG friends for as long as i could have if i stayed local. couldnt really sing cos my voice couldnt come out. then had this friendship circle where councillors on the outer circle would go one round to shake all freshies hands on the inner circle. After that, we officially broke camp. Rhor then went for 1 final dinner together as a OG at hao xiang, while giving out the appreciation cards to everyone. that marked the end of an amazing 5d4n of arts camp. and brings me to the key point of the this blog post.

-------

When i made up my mind to join arts camp, it was because i'd be going with my bros from I&I. I didnt sign up for it at the start because i'd thought it be very tiring, and i needed rest because once school reopened, my schedule would be very packed and I'd barely get any rest again. How wrong I was. I'm so relieved i learned that that was a mistake after going CBB, and having just an awesome time there, that I knew i would definitely have loads of fun at arts camp.

I have enjoyed these two camps thoroughly. Many people ask me why i even join camps when im not going KR, when im not going FASS, when im not even going NUS. i answer by "just to have fun". Although i did expect to have fun, i did not expect to lose myself so deeply into the activities and the social construct of both camps. I went with the knowledge that the friendships forged will potentially hold me back from going on, so i tried at the start to be careful so that I dont hurt people. However, making friends was natural for me. intuitive, in fact. so much so i didnt worry about me not belonging for the entire duration of both camps.

The fun I had was unexpected. I loved how I could just relax and let everything happen, not having to worry about my food, lodging, water, and everything. I loved how i could do stupid things and enjoy it tremendously: because i was doing it with new-found friends. cheering our hearts out for one another and for our common identity, getting dirty on spreads and paint: these are things I will never EVER get to do again, after starting school in UK.

I look back at those brilliant moments doing stupid things together now, and I smile to myself, happy that I chose to go for these camps, and made these friends, and to go through these moments with them. I feel really blessed and grateful for all of them not to exclude me and hate, since I told them the truth. I feel really happy to have made all these new friends, especially rhor ogmates, whom i feel I could still talk to even after flying over to UK. they have really made me feel so at home.
At the same time, I feel sad that it is the only few moments that I'll be able to forge with my new friends.
Of course, I also feel guilt for lying to all of them since day 1. haha.

I feel really happy to have gone for the camps, because I really had a great great time at both, experiences I would find hard to find overseas, or duplicate at other camps I would go for here on in. I teared when vincent, the pd at arts camp, teared at end of arts camp. because i could identify with the feeling of just doing so much for an event (dancenight), and after so much and so long, it has come to a successful. I also teared when we were singing "wont go home without you" w R house one last time in TH, cos i knew that was my last time. I also vividly remember how KR seniors / HPB / FWOC-ers were high at the end of the camp with the song playing (dk what song).

all these experiences make me feel like im part of them already, yet i am not. isnt that awkward..perhaps it is not weird to have feelings for these two entities (KR and R house/arts camp). It will be something I will have to deal with during those moments of loneliness in London. It is something I am proud to have been a part of, something I am most willing to deal with, something I look back with brilliant memories.

thanks to all that helped forge these memorable experiences. for cbb, the hpb, my bgls darren and yingying, snrs ks, lydia, cat, marcus, eugene, kok loong, mason, celeste, ken sing, steven henry. freshies valerie ,hannah, amelia, josephine, jordyn, eunice, leroy, eugene, ralph, junxian, ernest, esther.

i feel the need to pen this down somewhere.

so last fri-sun i was at kr hall exposure camp: camp blueblood. posted into group called black window. had super nice bgls! ks happened to crash my group! so coincidental. more coincidences: my SP is my grandjnr! she's in zpp's group. her grpmate's huijun's SP. my grpmate is amanda chan's SP. my dance partner is my SP's good friend. gosh..

(huijun and amanda are my grand jnrs in CCA, my SP is my cls grandjnr)

so i had a great time. doing stupid things. like buaing spread on my body. using shirt to squeeze water. playing paint twister. more stupid stuff like icebreakers. mass dance! singing songs. cheering ALL out. lameass pool games! like holding a straw with our pinkies and kiap-ing a uncooked spaghetti with our mouths, crabbing our way across the pool and back again. and of course the imba ntm game!

sp games. nice lah. good first time doing things in such company. altho blindfolded, but still nice. i kinda miss it, my SP was the one i talked the most too! lol havent talked to her much since, scared scare her. owells, will do so. but really miss being blindfolded and being brought ard to do stupid things!

i want to record this brilliant experience i had. i want to thank the bgls, my grp facils, and my grp members. everything was very good. i enjoyed myself so much. i miss the experience. this is one of the last times i can really lose myself, indulge in the moment and get crazy. with company. amazing.

thanks kr hall and hpb.
sorry as well
